Try gzip, man it and find out how to extract. Zip is so prevasive and dominent you can easily find another program to do so if gzip is not there or not satisfactory.

Zip/Unzip Software?
I've tried lots and I always come back to WinRar. Can't recommend it highly enough.
It's not free, but after the trial period it doesn't stop working, it just gives you a nag screen when you start it up reminding you to register
It's worth the hassle of the nag screen
your Mrs likes to unzip me
7-Zip, its a freeware: http://www.7-zip.org/
WinZip
http://www.winzip.com/ has a free 45-day trial.
http://www.camunzip.com/ is completely free.
And here's some more from the FreeWR website:

http://www.freewr.com/freeware.php?download=izarc&lid=1629
http://www.freewr.com/freeware.php?download=7-zip&lid=1597
winzip its not free but you can use it but there are others out there this site has others
http://www.thefreesite.com/Free_Software/Unzipping_compression_freeware/
TUGZip integrates neatly with Windows explorer and doesn't create any explorer issues (crashes etc - unlike some!) At least that's been my experience
http://www.filehippo.com/download_tugzip/

What is the best software to use to unzip a file ???
any answers would really help :)
7zip its free
I recommend using 7-Zip. 7-Zip is an open source file archiver with high compression ratio.
7-Zip has a strong community backing and unlike WinZip and WinRAR is completely free (contrary to popular belief WinRAR and WinZip are not free though you can use the trial periods indefinitely).
I use 7zip too. I like software that does lots of types of compressed files instead of lots of software I can't find when I need it.
The best way to unzip is to use XP from Windows Explorer. Navigate until you see the zip file, then right-click and select extract all from the drop-down menu. Extracting to the current folder works fine. Then you can move the resulting files to the software program of your choice.

Is there anyway that you can unzip a .rar file without using any software at all?
im on windows vista business, im totally stuck and hopefully people can help!
Thanks :D
no you need WinRAR
1. Unzip it on another machine, put the results on a USB thumb drive.
2. Boot the Vista machine with a Linux Live-CD, use that to unzip your rar.
Don't let Vista grind you down!
chmod already said it but I'm just confirming, 7zip is the way to go. Nice freeware and no crappy ads or spyware stuck to it.
or use 7zip, it's free
you HAVE to use winrar
Chmod - they said they can't use software.

Where can I get free software to unzip files?
Winzip.
Windows XP build in ZIP function.
you can get it at winzip.com
Free Zip Program: QuickZip from Joseph Leung
http://www.quickzip.org/quickzip/downloads.php
QuickZip helps you shrink very large files or extract previously zipped files. It can extract 20 different types of archive files. The documentation is written in broken English but it's good enough to get you going.
Requirements: Windows 98, ME, NT, XP
winzip
winzip or winrar both of them are free

Good free ftp unzip software for Mac?
FTP software I would just use Fetch or Transmit. I think those are the better options out for the Mac. Though you could also try installing the FireFox add-on FireFTP I believe is the name. Its actually a solid FTP tool, and if you're a Fire Fox user, then all the better I suppose.
For Unzip, that is build into OS X. You can already unzip .ZIP files. Just double click on them. Or are you looking to decompress other formats? If so you should make specific reference to the filetype you're having problems with.
When the OS wasn't doing it for me, I got this and it works great. Even lets you choose which files to unarchive.

I have downloaded a file with extention ".dmg" how can i unzip it with which unzipping software?
But beware, only some data files (images, text, movies, sound, etc) would be usable in Windows. You will not be able to install or run Mac applications.
On the Macintosh, these files are treated like a real disk. They can be created with Disk Copy, burnt to CD or mounted as a normal volume. If you have a .DMG file on a Windows PC it's likely you have a Macintosh file and you won't be able to use what is in it. Some sites distribute for the PC in an .EXE file and for the Mac in a .DMG file; make certain you have the version designed for your system. On a Windows PC the dmg2iso program will convert a .DMG file to an .ISO file which can then be burned to a CD or read using an .ISO file reader. Note: You have to run the dmg2iso program at a command prompt using the same command as listed on the site for the Perl version, substituting .EXE for .PL in the command. DMGs can be password-protected and, if so, may not be mountable by some software. The DMG file also comes in different formats: HFS, HFS+, UFS, ProDOS, Linux, and Fat32 and so may also require special mounting software to account for the format. IsoBuster can interpret these files directly as can other programs such as UltraISO. The program TransMac, by Acute Systems, can both opan and create DMG files on a PC.
Stuffit should be able to open it:
http://my.smithmicro.com/win/stuffit/index.html
Note that it's just a free demo that will work for 30 days...(Don't you just freaking hate crippleware?) so don't try to use it to compress anything with it.
I refer to this guide and it always work:

Any good recommendations for a free unzip software?
Winrar is free for a 40 day trial. After the 40 days you get a nag screen but can still use it.
go to www.rarlabs.com
winRAR is my favorite
and you probably don't need that to install flashplayer 8, go to adobe.com and check their website for the flash player install.

just google winrar and downloadits free :)

ISO files are images of drives. Typically these are CDs or DVDs. They are simply archives. They however, are not compressed. So there is no unzipping (one of many compression techniques) of them.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ISO_image
Typically you burn them to media. There are programs to mount ISO images as drives and there are programs to open and extract files from ISO images.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_ISO_image_software
Your boned. You wont be unzipping it anytime soon. Now if you wanted to MOUNT the ISO, you could use something like Daemon Tools or PowerISO. Chances are youre trying to pirate something and failing though, in which case you need read up on what your doing. If you dont know what an ISO is, you probably dont know how to protect yourself from.....
nevermind, good luck
If the file was zipped up using a compression tool, it depends on the software that was used to zip it up in the first place, but generally speaking, 7Zip (Free) will work on many different types of compressed files.
You don't unzip an ISO file, it is an image file.
MagicISO has a free version. You can see what is in the ISO file, and you can download MagicDisc to mount it. That makes ur comp think it is a CD.
Unfortunately you are an idiot because you don't unzip an ISO file. An ISO file is a disc image file. I supposed you could extract the files using a program like ISO Buster though.
What advanced Unzip software will zip up specific folders and location and unzip to the same exact locations?
Use 7-zip, it is free and works great.
