Screen Capture Software - Selecting the Right One

Screen capture is the process of saving what your monitor is displaying, usually as an image. You might use screen captures in a game, on the internet, or you able to even use a screen capture to prove payment or statistics for something.

If you play games or movies on your computer, screen capture software would come in handy to even take screen captures of your high record in your favorite game, or take clips from the update movie scenes on your computer.

When it comes to what screen capture software to use, you should take careful consideration when selecting what program you use. Some programs don't offer essential features you might deem useful, like the ability to capture scrolling windows. This feature will enable the capture tool to scroll automatically to capture something like a list.

Some utilities will even allow you to capture full web pages. Capture your competitor's web page so you could analyze them with scrutiny. Better yet, make a helpful tutorial for users of your website or program. At the end of this article you'll find great, well-to-do to use screen capture software that will let you do this.

Along with the handy features in your screen capture program, you'll want to make sure that the screen capture program you're using is easy to use. There's nothing like purchasing a program to save you time, and you spend an eternity learning how to use it!

That's why I wholeheartedly recommend Longfine Software's Easy Screen Capture software. It combines the latest early screen capture features with a program that is sleek and easy to operate. The value is limitless. Save huge amounts of time when creating tutorials or different useful documents. Copy entire websites as an image file.

U.S. Soldiers' New Weapon: an iPod...

Tying the hands of a person who is speaking, the Arab proverb goes, is akin to "tying his tongue." Western soldiers in Iraq cognize how important gestures could be when communicating with locals. To close, open as well as close a fist means "light," but just opening a fist means "bomb." One soldier recently home from Iraq once tried to order an Iraqi man to lie down. To get his point across, the soldier had to demonstrate by stretching out in the dirt. Translation software could help, but what's the best way to make it accessible in the field?

The U.S. military in the past would give a soldier an electronic handheld device, made at great expense specially for the battlefield, with the update software. But translation is only one of many software applications soldiers now need. The future of "networked warfare" requires every soldier to be linked electronically to different troops as well as to weapons systems and intelligence sources. Making sense of the reams of data from satellites, drones and ground sensors cries out for a handheld device that is both versatile and well-to-do to use. With their intuitive interfaces, Apple devices---the iPod Touch and, to a lesser extent, the iPhone---are becoming the handhelds of choice.

Using a commercial product for such a crucial military role is a break from the past. Compared with devices built to military specifications, iPods are cheap. Apple, after all, has already done the research and manufacturing without taxpayer money. The iPod Touch retails for under $230, whereas a device made specifically for the military could cost far more. (The iPhone offers more functionality than the iPod Touch, but at $600 or $700 each, is much more not cheap .) Typically sheathed in protective casing, iPods have proved rugged enough for military life. And according to an Army official in Baghdad, the devices have yet to be successfully hacked. (The Pentagon won't say how many Apple devices are deployed, and Apple Computer declined to be interviewed for this article.)
Click here to find out more!

The iPod also fulfills the U.S. military's need to equip soldiers with a single device that can perform many different tasks. Apple's online App Store offers more than 25,000 (and counting) applications for the iPhone and iPod Touch, which shares the iPhone's touchscreen. As the elegantly simple iPods---often controlled with a single thumb---acquire more functionality, soldiers can shed other gadgets. An iPod "may be all that they need," says Lt. Col. Jim Ross, director of the Army's intelligence, electronic warfare and sensors operations in Fort Monmouth, New Jersey.

The iPod is not the only multifunction handheld on the market, but among soldiers it's the most popular. Since most recruits have used one---and many already own one---it's that much easier to train them to prepare and upload new content. Users can add phrases to language software, annotate maps and link text or voice recordings to photos ("Have you seen this man?"). Apple devices make it easy to shoot, store and play video. Consider the affect of showing villagers a video message of a relaxed and respected local leader encouraging them to help root out insurgents.

Since sharing data is particularly important in counterinsurgency operations, the Pentagon is funding technology that makes it easier for the soldier on the ground to acquire information and quickly add it to databases. Next Wave Systems in Indiana, is expected to release iPhone software that would enable a soldier to snap a picture of a street sign and, in a couple of moments, receive intelligence uploaded by other soldiers (the information would be linked by the words on the street sign). This could include information about local water quality or the name and photograph of a local insurgent sympathizer. The U.S. Marine Corps is funding an application for Apple devices that would allow soldiers to upload photographs of detained suspects, along with written reports, into a biometric database. The software could match faces, making it easier to track suspects after they're released.

Apple gadgets are proving to be surprisingly versatile. Software developers and the U.S. Department of Defense are developing military software for iPods that enables soldiers to display aerial video from drones and have teleconferences with intelligence agents halfway across the globe. Snipers in Iraq and Afghanistan now use a "ballistics calculator" called BulletFlight, made by the Florida firm Knight's Armament for the iPod Touch and iPhone. Army researchers are developing applications to turn an iPod into a remote control for a bomb-disposal robot (tilting the iPod steers the robot). In Sudan, American military observers are using iPods to learn the appropriate etiquette for interacting with tribal leaders.

Translation is another important area. A new program, Vcommunicator, is now being issued to soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan. It produces spoken and written translations of Arabic, Kurdish and two Afghan languages. It also shows animated graphics of accompanying gestures and body language, and displays pictures of garments, weapons and other objects. Procurement officials are making a "tremendous push" to develop and field militarily useful Apple devices, says Ernie Bright, operations manager of Vcom3D, the Florida firm that developed the software. The iPod has already transformed the way we listen to music. Now it's taking on war.

Recover From File Deletions

File deletions is the easiest as well as one of the more common ways to lose a file. Deleting a file (or even formatting even) is a fairly common occurrence and is not fatal mistake on its own. Deleted files by default will go to the recycle bin first, so if you are missing any files, just check your recycle bin.

However, the problem arises when you have emptied the recycle bin OR pressed shift +del to permanently delete the file (like I always do). When this happens, you have no way of retrieving the data through conventional methods. (Double-clicking, open file and so on.

There is, however, some chance of you getting back the data. Hence, this article exists. To recover (this word will appear numerous times in this article) the data, you need specialised software, another computer, and much, much luck.

Oh, and interrupt using the computer. Using the computer after you lose data on it will affect your chances of recovery. You run into the chance of accidentally overwrite the data and lose any chance of recovering data.

Setup

First you need to remove the hard disk (the one with the deleted data), connect it to another computer and set it as a secondary/slave drive.

Why do you need to do this though?

As I told earlier, you need to avoid using the computer (the hard disk actually) so that you actually have the chance to get back the data that you lost. You'll look why later.

Software

Remember that you need to attach the hard disk as a secondary/slave drive? If you haven't done it, do so now! After you have done that, you need specialised data recovery software to help you recover the data that you just deleted. I'm using ADRC's data recovery tools software, as it is free (and it works well too!). Download it at this location:

Data Recovery Tools

Download, unzip and double-click on the program icon. The ADRC data recovery tools application should open. No installation is required.

Create Disk Image

Creating a disk image file, while not really necessary, gives you an extra buffer. If anything happens during the recovery phase, you can always fall back on the original disk as it remains untouched from when it first lost data.

Once you have ADRC data recovery tools is running, open the "image backup/restore" tab option. To do this, under the tools menu, select "image backup/restore". Then, click the "Create Image from Disk" radio button.

Click the browse button under "Image File" and select a suitable file name before saving (such as data.img). Don't choose weird files names with symbols and such only later to forget what you named the file as. Under "Image Disk", select the drive you want to create the image from, i.e.; the drive that you have lost data on. Then click the transfer button and wait for the imaging process to finish.

Remember that you must never ever save the image file to the same drive as the one you lost data on. That'd be suicide.

Recovery Phase

With imaging and backup done, we can finally proceed to the recovery phase.

We are still going to use ADRC data recovery tools software. This time however, select "undelete" instead of "image backup/restore" under "tools" tab. Select the image file (data.img in this case) that you created before and click "search". After this, here will be a long and agonising wait for the process to finish. With luck, the file you need and deleted can be found in the list.

Select the files (to select many files, press ctrl and click) that you need. This is a potentially tedious process as there may be many files which you do not need populating the list. Persevere! You need the files! Once you have selected the files, just click the "Undelete Files" button. You will then be prompted to specify a location to save the files.

And there you have it! As long as you do not do anything (much) to the hard disk, you should have no problems in recovering the files you need.

Giveaways - Three Ways to Use Them Successfully in Online Marketing

I rarely have a week during which I don't get a series of emails announcing giveaways and trying to convince me to sign up and enjoy the "goodies" supplied by several known, but often by less-known marketers.

At times, there will be two or three giveaway events taking place, especially around Christmas, or Easter, or Father's Day or Halloween. Very often, an organizer uses his or her own private event to find a theme for the giveaway or to justify it somehow. When that happens, we have a "moving-out giveaway, a "getting-married giveaway", or a "my-daughter-is-six giveaway" (I'm not kidding; I remember at least two events with that idea).

Actually, any pretext to hold a giveaway is great as long as the organizer puts some effort into creating a convincing letter of invitation. But the truth is, nobody cares much, as there are always hordes of individuals who just think - "all right, completely right, just give me the stuff..." Those are the opportunity seekers; they always will exist, because who does not like bargains? And each giveaway event is a great chance to get for free stuff that is normally being sold for significant amounts of money - usually $17 - $47, but sometimes even higher-priced jewels are accessible (especially around Christmas/New Year).

Although those giveaways often feature offers by marketers who give their products (usually called "gifts") in every event, there is always a chance that something early and interesting will appear and you'll be able to get for free a nice piece of software or a valuable e-book that otherwise would cost you a couple dozens of dollars.

You could participate in those giveaway events in three basic ways: 1/ as an organizer, 2/ as a product supplier (contributor) and 3/ as a taker.

Let's start with the third option. It's very easy to sign up for a giveaway in order to be able to receive the gifts. You should join every event that attracts your attention, especially if the gifts are in the niche or medium you're very curious (e.g., blogging, podcasting, article marketing, video marketing, social marketing, etc.). It won't cost you anything, except your time. Yes, that's the catch (you knew there will be one...) - in order to get any gift you will have to sign up for the mailing list. Or at least two mailing lists - first you'll give your email to the organizer(s) and then to every marketer whose gift you'd like to get.

Many people unsubscribe as soon as they download the gifts. It's always useful to make a special folder for the downloaded giveaway goodies. Another good idea is to unzip the downloads inside that folder. And give that folder a meaningful name so that you cognize when to find those treasures later. Very often, when the giveaway has numerous excellent products, downloading takes a couple hours (that includes time for confirming registrations - without that you won't get the gifts). Having the downloaded gifts in one convenient place will allow you to go back later when you have time to unzip the products, to see if they work and if they have any value at all.

You could use the downloaded giveaway items in some ways. In general, it depends what rights are coming with them, but in most cases you can use them on your web site, blog, in an e-book you're working on, or if it's software - to improve your business or private productivity. Very often, you'll be able to re-brand them and sell them as your own. You might be able to give them away in another giveaway event. You can use them as bonuses to entice people to purchase your own products or you can just give them away at your web site or blog and build a mailing record in that way.

With that, we just touched the reasons 1/ and 2/ for participating in the giveaways. They are so fashionable because with very little expense (almost zero), you can fast build a big mailing list. Simply make your own giveaway event or become a JV-partner. Being an organizer requires a bit more effort and it's a subject for another article, but being a JV partner is easy. All you have to do is to create a product or use a one you have the rights to and build a simple squeeze page to present your gift and capture the emails and just contact the giveaway organizer. In most cases, if your product is valuable, and your squeeze page looks professional (it doesn't mean it has to be fancy or flashy; very simple, but working one will do), you will be accepted.

Once you join any giveaway and see how easy and useful it is, it will be hard for you to refuse to participate in another, and another one. Especially if they are run by the popular marketers as they always try to feature at least few gems.

How do you save and unzip a file to your desk top?

i recevied an e-mail from a software company and was told to save and unzip to my desktop. How do i go about doing this. Thanks

Without knowing what operating system or what email client you are using, this is going to be a stab in the dark. I'm going to assume you are using Windows XP. I am also going to assume that you DEFINITELY trust the source of this zipped file. PLEASE be sure you are not getting a spam message instead of a trustworthy message.

The email should have an attachment. If you are using Outlook, right-click on the attachment and select Save As. Find your desktop entry and save the file.

Once the file is saved, minimize or close all of your windows and get to your desktop. Right-click on the zipped folder and you should have an option to Extract All or similar (depending on if you have 7Zip or WinZip). Select what location you need to unzip the folder to and continue with the wizard. Since we don't know what zip program you have on your computer, this is again a stab in the dark.

Good luck!

How do I unzip a file with RAR format?

I downloaded a video file with RAR format. Now I cannot witch it because, I guess, it needs to be unzipped. I have Vista Home Premium software. What do I need to do?

Download WinRAR. After doing so you should be able to just double click on the files you downloaded and they should automatically open with WinRAR.

Make sure to select "Extract To" at the top of the program and select where you want the file saved, I recommend the Desktop so the files are easier to find.

After that you should just be able to use whatever you downloaded.

You can also click and drag the files you want from WinRAR to the Desktop or Folder you want to move it to.

You need to get winrar. See http://www.winrar.com

Great zip software, dont worry about it being a "trial" it never stops working, and its limitless.

use "WinRar"......it opens it and unzips it quick and easy.

download winrar its free

Does any one know free software to unzip music files in RAR format?

i just downloaded a song from a new artist's site but i cant listen to it because its zipped in RAR format and i dont know how to open the files inside

The software to use is WinRar as answered. It works the same way as WinZip. Simply double click/right click, and un-rar to a folder.

I myself prefer WinRar over WinZip, as i really like the function called 'Extract Here'. (I'm not sure if this function exists on WinZip or not)

Check out the link below to download the free software.
